ESL Writing Worksheets

ESL writing worksheets are a good way to practice using ESL vocabulary. Writing is a good way to practice new vocabulary as you have time to stop and think and make sure you are using the best word for the situation.

Newest Writing Worksheet

The following is the newest worksheet that has been added to this section of the site. New material is being added all the time so check back regularly to get new worksheets.

ESL New Year writing worksheet

These ESL writing worksheets will help you get better at using and understanding English.

To download any of the worksheets just click on the links at the end of the page and you will be able to see the full worksheet and then download it to your own computer.

The material contained in the worksheets is similar to that found in the ESL writing section of the Excellent ESL 4U website; it has just been presented in a way that is easy for you to download and print at home. If it is more convenient for you to download and save the material for a later time, these worksheets will let you do that.

The free writing worksheets on this page all have either three or four exercises and tasks for you to do (only a few have three, most have four). In the tasks you will have to either write a short essay, write a summary of a passage, write a description of a picture or a graph, or write a role-play.

As all of these exercises are free writing exercises and not multiple choice questions there are no correct answers given. You should find a friend, teacher or tutor to give you feedback and comments once you have finished the exercises.

All of the ESL writing worksheets presented on this page are about specific topic areas (such as the weather or pets), and complementary worksheets can be found on the following pages:

The vocabulary worksheets contain lots of useful vocabulary items with definitions, so you should look at that before doing the writing to make sure you know enough vocabulary. If you prefer it, you can download the vocabulary items as ESL flashcards. You can use these to learn the words before starting the writing exercise on the worksheets.

Please remember to like the Excellent ESL 4U Facebook page (link at bottom of page) if the material is useful for you. Also you can sign up for my ESL 4U Ezine through the form in the right hand column.
