How to Become an ESL Tutor

Excellent ESL 4U offers ESL tutors somewhere to advertise their services, and this page will explain how to become a tutor on that page.

If you are interested in how to become a tutor you can find out on this page.

The main online English tutor page has a list of all the tutors and links to the individual tutor pages. Excellent ESL 4u will provide you with a page about you and a form for potential new students to fill-in to contact you. Once the students have contacted you the continuing relationship is solely your responsibility. You will need to organize payment and scheduling of classes.

You will need to set your own hourly rate (you can change it at any time) and types of classes that you offer.

How to Become a Tutor

To become featured on the Excellent ESL 4u site you will need to provide me with several things:

  • A photograph of yourself.
  • A description of you and your experience.
  • A short introduction video

The students will want to know quite a bit about you before they decide to book a lesson with you as their new ESL teacher. Therefore, the better the quality and more detailed the information for the above items the more likely that a student will select you.

This could be any photo of you, but either a professional looking headshot or an action picture of you teaching (without other faces being visible or you will have to get a consent form from the people) would be best.

Describe your experience and why you are a good teacher. The most important information should come first as this will be displayed on the main page next to your name. The rest of the information will be included on your own individual tutor page. This should be about 200-300 words long.

The video should be used to describe and introduce yourself to potential new students. You could either just read your description/ bio information or include something new. This should not be too long. Just 2 or 3 minutes will be fine. If it is more than 5 minutes it will be rejected and you will need to make it shorter.

Other information
You will also need to let me know:

  • Your hourly rate.
  • Types of classes taught (conversation, grammar, everything, etc.).
  • Whether you only do individual classes or small groups as well.

Remember, if you have any questions about becoming a tutor, just contact me and I will be happy to help.
